POSTER CONDITION GLOSSARY

Many of the posters on this web site have been given a condition rating. Even though our opinions may differ on the condition of a poster, keep one thing in mind...satisfaction is guaranteed! Please take a minute and read the following condition explanations.

MINT-Unused (or appears to be unused), no pinholes, no separations-all paper intact at folds, no fading or cracking of ink.

NEAR MINT (NM)-Unused or looks like it was displayed only once. Poster is still extremely clean. It will usually have only 1 of the conditions from the list of imperfections.

FINE • VERY FINE-Poster has barely been used. Handling of poster may have caused the piece to lose its crisp feel. It will have 1-2 of the conditions from the list of imperfections.

VERY GOOD (VG)-Poster has been used or shows signs of age. It will have 1-3 of the conditions from the list of imperfections. Linen or paper backing would easily give this poster the appearance of "FINE" and possibly "NEAR MINT".

GOOD-Poster has been used, and/or repaired. It will have 1-4 of the conditions from the list of imperfections. In addition, there may be cracking of the ink or paper or a censor stamp.. Linen or paper backing would save this poster.

FAIR-Poster has definitely been misused or abused and needs attention. It is priced with the understanding that; (1) you are not too particular or (2) you plan to invest in repairs or linen backing.

POOR!-With few exceptions, I don't have any "poor" condition posters. "Poor" posters should be used for wrapping fish or coffee grounds.

LIST OF IMPERFECTIONS

1-Pin holes or staple holes

2-Extra fold(s)

3-Separations in folds: Tiny /small (approx. 1/8"-1/4")

or standard separation (approx. 1/2" or more)

4-Hairline tear(s)

5-Edge wear or portion of border frayed

6-Handling dirt (poster being passed around)

7-Scotch or masking tape or tape stain(s)

8-Tape lift: Top layer of paper removed when scotch or

masking tape was lifted from the face of the poster

9-Wrinkles or rippling (usually caused by water or dampness)

FOLDED POSTERS

90% of all folded movie posters are folded the same. They are folded in half twice (from top to bottom) and then folded again from side to side (left to right or right to left)

The condition ratings I have given to the posters on this web site, make reference to certain fold lines. The diagram below will help you distinguish the different fold lines to which I am referring.

EXAMPLE CONDITION:

VG, folded. Pinholes in TRB and LBB. Small separation in VFL at TB and cracking in BFL near RB.

(NOTE: DOES NOT APPLY TO THE ACTUAL "CRIMSON PTRATE" ITALIAN POSTER SHOWN ABOVE)

CODES AND ABBREVIATIONS

IN ADDITION TO THE ABBREVIATIONS USED IN THE ABOVE EXAMPLE, HERE ARE SOME OF THE OTHER 'CODES' OR ABBREVIATIONS I USE:

'T' usually refers to TOP

'F' usually refers to FOLD or FOLDLINE

'B' usually refers to BOTTOM or BORDER

'C' usually refers to CENTER or CENTERLINE

'L' usually refers to LEFT (sometimes 'LOWER')

'R' usually refers to RIGHT

Example: BB,RB, LB, etc = Bottom border, right border, left border

Then add another "B", like RBB= Right bottom border

HLT= Hairline tear, TRC=Top right corner

TCF=Top Center Fold

As you can see, it is quite simple. But if you find yourself getting tangled up in my 'lingo', all you have to do is drop me a line (via email) or give me a call @ 360-671-4490.
