"Americans All!" WWI Christy Girl Poster by Howard Chandler Christy (1919)
WWI "Christy Girl" poster encouraging civilians to purchase victory war bonds to pay for the war that just ended, and featuring Howard Chandler Christy art of Columbia holding a wreath over the "Honor Roll" of injured and lost servicemen. Note that the names on this poster were taken from actual casualty lists sent to General 'Blackjack' Pershing.
"Christy Girls" are still known world-wide for their almost mysterious sensuality and emotive expressions. Their dreamy expressions enticed numerous young men to take up arms and enlist, and numerous Americans to empty their pockets to support the war effort.
Size*:
27" x 40"
Condition:
Very Good
Rolled. Linen backed. Exquisite color on this poster. Though linen backed, no restoration was performed. We could see a possible tear in the top margin between the "E" and the "R" but even that we are not sure of. Some pencil writing on the bottom on the linen from an old previous sale. This is a really clean poster.
