"Have You A Red Cross Service Flag?" WWI Red Cross Christmas Poster by Jessie W. Smith (1918)
WWI Home Front charity poster encouraging people to donate to the Red Cross, and featuring Jessie Willcox Smith art of a boy displaying a service flag in a window. In World War I, those Americans who had a family member serving overseas would display a Red Cross service flag in their front window, so that everyone in their town knew that those families had a member in harm's way.
Please note that this poster is dark by design. It's not "dirty".
Size*:
21" x 27.75"
Condition:
Good
Rolled. Linen backed. Some light pencil marks on lower right border. The poster was never folded, but prior to restoration it had creases, tears, and small paper loss scattered throughout, more so down the center and around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linen backing. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
