Southern Pacific Railroad - "La Fiesta de Los Angeles" (1931)
Southern Pacific Railroad - "La Fiesta de Los Angeles" (1931)
Southern Pacific Railroad poster advertising "low roundtrip fares" to "La Fiesta de Los Angeles" celebrating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the city. Lovely imagery of a man on horseback and a female dancer, both in traditional garb.
La Fiesta de los Angeles was a parade and festival in Downtown Los Angeles that appeared yearly between 1894 and 1916. It was revived in 1931 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding.
According to a New York Times headline on the day: "Founding of City 150 Years Ago Will Be Re-enacted in a Colorful Pageant. HISTORY WILL BE REPEATED Old Forms of Transportations to Be Depicted—"Mardi Gras" Will Conclude Fete. 'Mystery Queen" to Be Crowned. Air Meet Will Be Feature."
Size*:
16" x 23"
Condition:
Good to Very Good
Rolled.
Pinholes in the corners, some with small paper loss. Two light stains on the right in the white background and some smaller ones in the title area. This is also a very old poster, so there is what I would call very light soil around the edges. Framed, I would say the really striking imagery would make these defects not very noticeable. If you were to take it to a reputable restorer to clean and linen back, they could fix almost all of it (including repairing the holes. They can be miracle workers!)
